Decadent Chocolate Custard

This rich and creamy custard can be made entirely on top of the stove---no need to bake in a water bath. Remember to buy a high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.

Ingredients

1/3 cup milk
6 ounces high-quality semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Directions

Place cream and milk in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mixture just comes to a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Add chocolate; whisk until melted and smooth.

Whisk yolks in bowl just to blend. Gradually whisk warm chocolate mixture into beaten yolks. Return chocolate mixture to same saucepan. Cook over medium heat 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and just begins to bubble. Do not boil.

Pour custard evenly among 6 (3-ounce) custard cups. Cool completely. Cover; chill 1 hour or until serving time.

This came out excellent. It was easy to make and in a very short time.
We think this is the best dessert we have ever had and make it every week!!!
It was easy, but it was SUPER rich and not sweet...I felt like I was eating a bowl of ganache...
It was easy and came out excellent, I would highly recommend (I used skim milk to cut some of the calories and it still tasted great and also used bittersweet chocolate, not as sweet which I like)
This was absolutely heavenly! This may be the most wonderful chocolate cussterd I have ever had!
