Chocolate Cake With Peanut Butter Frosting

The fluffy peanut butter frosting on this layer cake will bring out the kid in you.

1 2/3 cups sugar
3/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt


1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
4 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 to 3 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Half & Half


Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and lightly flour 2 (8- or 9-inch) square or round cake pans; set aside.

Combine sugar and 3/4 cup butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt to butter mixture alternately with 1 1/3 cups half & half, beating just until mixed.

Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake 30-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pans. Cool completely.

Place peanut butter, cream cheese and 2 tablespoons butter in bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla and enough half & half for desired frosting consistency.

Place 1 cake layer onto serving plate. Spread 1 cup frosting over top; top with second cake layer. Spread remaining frosting over top and sides of cake.

Just finished making this chocolate cake and peanut butter frosting! Awesome frosting recipe. Did not add vanilla, or butter. Did increase peanut butter to 1 cup... and a few drops of boiling water to frosting mixture to help melt down powdered sugar. Mix well. Tonight it's a birthday cake and I will follow up with remarks on the cake.! Used a 13" x 9" pan. Looks Yummy!
The frosting is amazing but the cake, not so much! I had to switch up a few ingredients and the cake came out pretty dry. I am using a different cake recipe but will use the frosting recipe!
Did not make the cake, but needed a peanut butter frosting recipe instead. This is the very best peanut butter frosting I have made. Even the men at work wanted the recipe
Loved the cake. The frosting was too oily. If I make the frosting again, I'll leave out the butter.
The peanut butter frosting is awesome. I used a mix for a two layer dark chocolate cake. I took it to our Supper Club and got rave reviews. I wll be cooking for a church supper soon and am planning to make the cakes in 9X13 pans. The frosting will be a hit!!!
I use this recipe every time I make a chocolate cake and it is perfect! soft and light on the first day and then it goes slightly fudgy the next. I use chocolate ganache as a topping instead of the peanut butter frosting.
This is the best peanut butter frosting I've ever made! It's not overly sweet like the Wilton one I've made. It taste great and everyone loved it! I can't wait to try the cake too!
I loved the cake recipe although did not try the frosting. The cake came out very moist and I felt it was a very simple recipe to make from scratch.
My family didn't like the chocolate/peanut butter frosting combo. The cake was very good, in fact I may make that again and frost it with chocolate frosting. But I won't make it with peanut butter frosting.
