Did you know that Halloween is the second most popular holiday? From carving pumpkins to decorating with spider webs, the elements of surprise make Halloween fun and unpredictable. No wonder it’s celebrated by both children and adults. Whether you are preparing for trick-or-treaters or planning a Halloween bash, here are some ideas for a spooktacular time.

Instead of carving pumpkins, give each guest a mini pumpkin to decorate using paint pens or permanent markers. Include adhesive mini eyes, letters or other stickers.

Set the mood for your gathering by decorating the table with mini pumpkins. For an extra special touch, hollow them out at the top and place one votive candle in each pumpkin cavity. For kids’ gatherings, consider surrounding the pumpkins with plastic snakes, worms and spiders.

Make your cookies, bars and cake more festive with decorations. Look at your local supermarket, candy store or craft store for edible cake decorating supplies. Here are some creative ideas to get you started:

  • Candy corn can make fun teeth or horns on a monster face.
  • Nonpareils, candy eyes, licorice pieces or string, and red cinnamon candies can be used for monster eyes or crazy hair.
  • Edible gummy worms, frogs, crocodiles, sharks, fish and spiders add a fun, creepy touch.
  • Orange and black decorator sugars are an easy way to add festive colors.
  • Mixed candies in autumnal shapes, such as pumpkins, bats or corn, are a simple way to add a festive feel.
