Even if you don’t have a box full of fun holiday cookie cutters, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy cute cut-out cookies on your holiday table. A standard drinking glass with about a 3-inch opening is a great stand-in for cookie cutters.

Round cookies can be decorated in a variety of ways to add festive color to any cookie tray. First, make a batch of Best Ever Butter Cookies. Then check out the decorating suggestions below to get you started. For most of these, you can use a piping bag fitted with a small round tip, or a resealable plastic bag with a small corner snipped off to pipe frosting in different colors.

To create this first look, simply frost round butter cookies with white icing. Next, fill a piping bag with red frosting. Pipe red frosting on the white frosting to look like a peppermint candy. Sprinkle with some sanding sugar for added sparkle.

For the next idea, start by frosting round cookies with red icing. Then, use black gel frosting to create a belt and buttons. Use white frosting in a piping bag to add details like the fur trim along the bottom of the coat or a belt buckle.

To make snowflake cookies, frost round cookies with light blue icing. Fill a piping bag with white frosting. Pipe a snowflake pattern on the blue frosting. Finish with edible glitter or sanding sugar for extra sparkle.
