QMy dad is a fan of ordinary comfort foods such as meatloaf, pork chops and steak. He does not like to try new things. Now that fall is here, I'd like to make some simple stews and soups that he will enjoy.

Comfort foods are a favorite for most everyone. Here are some simple stews and a hearty soup that will be sure to satisfy your dad, while adding a few more comfort food options to your recipe box.

No one can resist a bowl of fragrant Chicken Soup & Dumplings on a cool fall night, or our Homestyle Pork & Vegetable Stew, chock-full of carrots, celery, and potatoes. Don't hesitate to plug in the slow cooker and try the All-American Beef Stew, truly a meal in itself!

Thanks for your comments, Margaret. There are ways to make it more flavorful - adding more herbs, selecting a more full-bodied sauce. If the pie was cooled for about 10 minutes before cutting and serving it the pieces may stay together better.

I made the spaghetti pie and weas very disappointed in the flavor - I would not make it again - it was hard to slice in that it easily fell apart and the pasta was not firm enough to remove in one piece. It was "very" bland.
