Ingredients

Cake

1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 cup buttermilk  

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 to 3 medium (2 cups) tart cooking apples, peeled, chopped 1/4-inch

Topping

1/2 cup chopped nuts

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

 *Substitue 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar and enough milk to equal 1 cup. Let stand 5 minutes.

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease and flour 13x9-inch baking pan. Set aside.

  2. STEP 2

    Combine butter, 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar in large bowl. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Stir soda into buttermilk in small bowl; add to butter mixture. Add eggs, flour, spices and salt; beat on medium speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Gently stir in apples. Spoon into prepared baking pan.

  3. STEP 3

    Combine all topping ingredients in small bowl; mix well. Sprinkle topping over cake batter. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
