Small Batch Sugar Cookies

Get started!

Ingredients

3/4 cup (90 grams) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup sugar

1 cold Half Stick (1/4 cup) Land O Lakes® Butter

1 large Land O Lakes® Egg (yolk only)

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Sanding sugar, if desired

How to make

  1. STEP 1

Heat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper; set aside.

  2. STEP 2

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl; set aside.

  3. STEP 3

Place sugar and cold butter into bowl of heavy-duty stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment. Beat at medium speed until well combined. Add egg yolk and vanilla; beat until well mixed. Add flour mixture, beating at low speed until just combined.

  4. STEP 4

Roll dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Loosen dough with metal spatula, adding additional flour as needed to prevent sticking. Cut dough with desired cookie cutters. Place cut-outs, 1-inch apart, onto prepared cookie sheets. Re-roll dough scraps as needed. Sprinkle with sanding sugar, if desired.

  5. STEP 5

Bake 8-10 minutes or until just beginning to brown around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack; cool completely before decorating as desired.

Tip #1

For best results, chill your cut-out cookie dough 20-30 minutes before baking to ensure the cookies hold their shape.
