Who We Are

Innovation, cooperation and serving our communities are the things that have kept our story alive since 1921. And there's no end in sight.

Even the Best Can Get Better

We are driven every day to make things better. For you, for ourselves, and for the world around us.

Sweet (Not Sour) Cream Butter

Sweet (Not Sour) Cream Butter

You may think butter has always had the creamy, farm-fresh taste you love. But back when Land O'Lakes was founded, most butter was made from sour cream and sold in tubs.
Land O'Lakes was the first to make butter from fresh, sweet cream, and sell it in individually wrapped sticks. This sweet innovation not only set the standard for butter quality, but also changed America's cooking and eating habits.

Flavor Protect® Wrapper

Flavor Protect® Wrapper

We want you to have the freshest, most delicious butter imaginable. That's why we invented the
Flavor Protect® Wrapper for our Salted and Unsalted Butter Sticks. Made from a special wax blend, the
Flavor Protect® Wrapper keeps other flavors out and the rich creaminess of Land O Lakes® Butter in.

Tub Butter

Tub Butter

Everyone knows the joy of spreading soft, smooth butter on warm bread, fluffy pancakes or English muffins. In 2003,
Land O'Lakes introduced spreadable Butter with Canola Oil, making it the first company to commercialize a spreadable butter product at national scale in the U.S. Since then, Land O'Lakes has debuted other varieties, including Cinnamon Sugar, Honey Butter, and Garlic and Herb Butter Spreads. They're always soft and spreadable, right out of the fridge.

Half Sticks

Half Sticks

Land O'Lakes is always looking for ways to make cooking more convenient for you. In 2006, we introduced Salted Butter Half Sticks. Half sticks make small-batch cooking much easier, eliminating the hassle of measuring, cutting and rewrapping butter. Half sticks first debuted as a Salted Butter, but are now available in Unsalted as well as Olive Oil & sea salt.

All For One

A co-op since 1921, we have always believed in the power of coming together. We work together towards a greater good, benefiting all and not just one.

In 1921, 320 dairy farmers came together in St. Paul, Minnesota, to form the Minnesota Cooperative Creameries Association.

The idea was simple — join forces to effectively market and distribute members’ dairy production across the country. They likely didn't know that they had set the wheels in motion for the future of their industry.

Today, we continue to live and work with the same passion and are united in a common cause, committed to excellence and inspired by our place in the world.

Our international journey kicked off 52 years later, as we began to support local agriculture in developing nations around the world. We have an unparalleled farm-to-fork view of agriculture, which makes us uniquely qualified to fulfill our purpose of feeding human progress around the world.

Whether across oceans, or just across fences, we have never lost sight of those core values established in 1921; coming together to make things better.

What started with a few farms has grown, allowing us to make a bigger, better impact on the world around us.

Green Acres Farm

Lewes, Delaware

Green Acres Farm

Meet Burli Hopkins, the head of the largest dairy farm in the state of Delaware. And a tattooed, free-thinking, modern farmer to boot.

"Forget what you learned about dairy farming growing up," says Burli Hopkins. "Most of it isn’t true."

And he should know. For generations, Burli's family has been carrying on the farming tradition, started by Burli’s great grandfather, Alden Hopkins, in 1915. Now, as the owner and operator, Burli makes Green Acres Farm a fourth generation farm, and his children will make it a fifth.
