Making Use of Leftover Halloween Candy

I love Halloween. Seeing all of the kids in our neighborhood come out in their cute costumes is one of my favorite parts of the fall. Every year, we get at least 300 trick-or-treaters in a matter of a few hours! I’ll be honest- the candy I buy for the kids is usually the candy that appeals to me the most, and I buy way too much. But, I’d rather end up having too much than not enough!

I’m sure I’m not the only one with an excess of Halloween candy at the end of the night – so what do you do with all of that leftover candy? Obviously you could just eat it, but why not do something a little more exciting? Here are some ideas I’ve thought of in the past:

Freeze it. This way, if you have so much that you won’t be able to get through it in a few months, you can pull it out whenever you need it and chop up to use it in malts, shakes or added to plain ice cream. Make a decadent yet easy homemade fudge sauce to drizzle on top.

Take Ants on a Log to the next level. Top celery with nut butter, and sprinkle with chopped candy bars.

Make your own snack mix.

Use up that leftover candy corn and make Scarecrow Treats.

Make Candy Bar Fudge – if you love peanut butter cups, you’ll love this.

Everyone seems to have a surplus of caramel, nougat and peanut candy bars – a perfect excuse to make Caramel Peanut Mini Tarts.

And if all else fails…you can always keep a stash in your desk drawer for a quick pick-me-up at work – but be careful, when your coworkers find out, they won’t forget!

Nobody loves candy more than I! That is why at the age of 64 I am overweight and my husband is obese with raging diabetes. Don't do what I've done. People. . . eat a little and throw out the rest. Candy on special occasions--not ever ever EVER a daily, routine, frequent thing. Not on your celery. . . wasting it is truly waisting it!
