New Traditions and Old

Our 25th Anniversary Holiday Brochure and our 2nd Annual Twitter Party

My favorite holiday tradition is also my favorite way to kick-off the holiday season: Cookie-Baking Day.

My mom, sister, daughter-in-law and I all get together and we bake. And bake and bake and bake. We bake all day long — 12 to 15 kinds of cookies. We always make old favorites like Raspberry Almond Shortbread Thumbprints and Best Ever Butter Cookies. (Because, really, is any cookie platter complete without cutout cookies?) And we always add a few new recipes to the mix. I love anything with ginger, so I’m going to be sure we make a batch of Gingerbread White Chocolate Biscotti.

We created the biscotti recipe for our 2014 Holiday Collection. And, looking back, I’m delighted to realize that so many of the recipes my family and I have tried and loved have been part of Land O’Lakes’ annual holiday brochure. Can you believe we have been creating a holiday brochure every year for 25 years?

Yep, it’s our silver anniversary, and I have had the privilege of being involved in some way for 25 years. In 1990, of course, we printed and mailed the brochure. But now we are able to make it available and convenient for so many more people by putting the full brochure online. But, since a lot of us love the nostalgic feel of paper recipes, you can still download it as a beautiful printable brochure, or print any of the individual recipes.

And that’s the best thing about the holiday season, isn’t it? The way we combine old traditions with new innovations. We line up old favorites with spicy new biscotti on the cookie tray. We make room in the kitchen for new family members. (I’m looking forward to my new daughter-in-law joining us for Cookie-Baking Day this year!) We get to see the same beloved tree and decorations through the eyes of children who are new to these traditions. This year my grandson, Clark, is two, and I can’t wait to watch the holidays unfold for him.

New and old — what are you looking forward to this holiday season? I hope you’ll share your traditions, your recipes and your baking secrets with us during something that’s quickly becoming a new tradition for us: Our second annual #CookieChatter Twitter party.
