Ingredients

Cake

2/3 cup
Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2/3 cup
sugar
2
large Land O Lakes® Eggs
2 teaspoons
vanilla
2 cups
all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon
baking powder
1/4 teaspoon
salt
1 cup
milk

Frosting

1/4 cup
Land O Lakes® Butter
3 cups
powdered sugar
2 teaspoons
vanilla
3 to 4 tablespoons
milk

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 2 (8- or 9-inch) round cake pans; set aside.
  2. Combine 2/3 cup butter and sugar in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; continue beating, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
  3. Add flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk, beating at low speed and scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
  4. Divide batter among prepared pans. Bake 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely.
  5. Melt 1/4 cup butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium-low heat 4-5 minutes or until lightly browned.
  6. Place browned butter into bowl. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency.
  7. Spread frosting between cooled cake layers, top and sides of cake.

Recipe Tips

Cake can be baked in 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake 30-35 minutes.

This cake came out very good. I cut the baking time about 5 minutes as soon as the top started to turn golden. The cake came out very moist. The frosting is delicious.

Next time I will add the maximum amount of milk to the frosting, so it makes spreading easier.

I made the cake last night for a Christmas Party at work but I put it in a 13x9 pan. I don't know if it was because I made it into a sheet cake but the cake was really dry. Alot of cake receipes I use have more butter or oil in them. I will not be making this one again unless I add more butter.

the flavor reminded me of cakes my grandma used to make. but next time i will make sure i have the correct pan size and i think it will make a big difference in taste alone. but overall i liked it alot.
