Gingerbread Cookies

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened

1 large Land O Lakes® Egg (yolk only)

1 tablespoon molasses

1 tablespoon orange juice

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Combine sugar and butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed until creamy. Add egg yolk, molasses and orange juice; continue beating until well mixed. Add all remaining ingredients; beat at low speed until well mixed.

  2. STEP 2

    Divide dough in half; wrap each in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate 2-3 hours or overnight until firm.

  3. STEP 3

    Heat oven to 350°F.

  4. STEP 4

    Roll out dough, one-half at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch cookie cutters. Place 1-inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-11 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack. Decorate as desired.

Very disappointed in this recipe. I didn't want too spicy of a coookie because these were for a classrrom party but beyond butter, sugar, and a hint of cinnamon these were unimpressive. Also, they looked great while baking then flattened out more than I expected and were very greasy. I will not make this recipe again.

Excellent recipe! My four year old and I made these together and they roll out beautifully. Taste is amazing. I used 2 T. molasses but otherwise followed recipe exactly. We sprinkled colored sugar on before we baked them. 10-11 minutes in an electric oven. thank you for the great recipe!
