Hot Ham & Cheese Sub

This family-pleasing sandwich can be made in less time than it takes to get fast food take-out.

Ingredients

Topping

3 cups pre-shredded cabbage

1/3 cup coleslaw dressing

1 teaspoon Dijon-style mustard

1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper

Sandwich

4 (7-inch) hoagie buns, split

3 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter softened

1 pound (1 pound) thinly sliced ham

4 ounces Cheddar cheese, sliced

2 ounces Land O Lakes® Monterey Jack Cheese sliced

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat broiler. Combine all topping ingredients in bowl; toss lightly. Set aside.

  2. STEP 2

    Place buns onto ungreased baking sheet, cut-side up. Lightly spread cut-sides with butter. Layer ham evenly onto both sides of buns. Broil 4 to 5 inches from heat, 1-2 minutes, until heated through. Top with cheese slices. Continue broiling 1 minute until cheeses are melted.

  3. STEP 3

    Spoon about 1/3 cup topping over cheese on bottom half of each bun; cover with top half of bun. Serve immediately.

Tip #1

Cleaned, purchased bagged vegetables, like pre-shredded cabbage, save time and energy when preparing family meals. For the most long-lasting vegetables, check the “best if used by date” on the package before you purchase it. Store the vegetables in your refrigerator. If you use just a portion of the bag, use a spring clip to hold the bag shut before returning to your refrigerator.
