Ham & Broccoli Strata

12 slices white bread

12 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, cut into 1/4-inch slices

1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped broccoli, thawed, drained

2 cups chopped cooked ham or Canadian bacon  

3 cups Land O Lakes® Half & Half

6 large Land O Lakes® Eggs

2 tablespoons finely chopped onion

1 1/4 teaspoons dry mustard


 *Substitute 1 (12-ounce) package bulk sausage, cooked, crumbled.

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Grease 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.

  2. STEP 2

    Cut design out of each bread slice with 3-inch cookie cutter; set designs aside. Tear remaining bread into pieces; place into bottom of prepared pan. Layer with sliced cheese, broccoli and ham. Top with bread cut-outs.

  3. STEP 3

    Combine all remaining ingredients in bowl; beat with whisk. Pour evenly over mixture in pan. Cover with plastic food wrap; refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

  4. STEP 4

    Heat oven to 350°F.

  5. STEP 5

    Uncover; bake 60-75 minutes or until set and golden brown. If browning too quickly, loosely cover with aluminum foil. Let stand 15 minutes.

Tip #1

Use interesting shaped cookie cutters such as star or heart, etc. for bread cut-outs.

I prepared this dish for a brunch at my church. Everyone loved it and it disappeared in a flash. I was swamped with requests for the recipe. I do recommend it; however, I suggest using a very good ,strong flavored ham as I did. Also I baked it in an attractive casserole dish that I could serve in it.
