Mom's Almond Butter Toffee

1 cup sugar

1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup sliced almonds

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Butter 13x9-inch pan; set aside.

  2. STEP 2

    Combine sugar and butter in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally with wooden spoon, 25-30 minutes or until candy thermometer reaches 300°F or small amount of mixture dropped into ice water forms brittle strands.

  3. STEP 3

    Pour mixture into prepared pan; spread to cover bottom of pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over candy; let stand 5 minutes. Spread melted chocolate evenly over candy; sprinkle with almonds. Cool completely; break into pieces.

Mom made this when we were children and is a Christmas must. The only variance is that we always flip the toffee over once it has cooled, melt chocolate in the microwave, coat the other side and sprinkle almonds on that side also. Then break.
