3/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 (8-ounce) package chopped dates
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup orange juice
1 large Land O Lakes® Egg
1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2 to 3 tablespoons orange juice
Heat oven to 350°F.
Combine 3/4 cup butter, sugar, water, and dates in 3-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, 5-8 minutes or until dates are softened. Remove from heat; cool 15 minutes. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; mix well.
Drop dough by tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 12-14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.
Combine all frosting ingredients except orange juice in small bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding enough orange juice for desired spreading consistency. Frost cooled cookies.

I finally made these and they were a very big hit! Made them just like the recipe but I would suggest to cream the powdered sugar and butter for the icing for a while before adding the orange juice. My neighbor who gets my Christmas cookies every year said that this year was the best yet!
This is a delicious recipe! I did not make the frosting and they were still great. The recipe is very quick to prepare and turns out well.
I use parchment paper. Works great and saves the quality of the baking sheets.
