Cheese-Topped Tuna Burgers

Ingredients

2 (6-ounce) cans tuna in water, drained

2 cups (36 to 40) crushed buttery round crackers

1 rib (1/2 cup) celery , finely chopped

1/3 cup mayonnaise

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1 large Land O Lakes® Egg

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter

6 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American

6 hamburger buns , toasted

Lettuce leaves, if desired

Tomato slices, if desired

How to make

  1. STEP 1

Combine tuna, 1 cup cracker crumbs, celery, mayonnaise, onion powder and egg in bowl. Shape mixture into six (4-inch) patties.

  2. STEP 2

Place remaining cracker crumbs into pie pan or shallow bowl. Lightly press both sides of tuna patties into cracker crumbs.

  3. STEP 3

Melt butter in 12-inch skillet until sizzling. Cook tuna patties over medium-high heat, carefully turning once, 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. Top each with 1 slice cheese. Serve on hamburger bun with lettuce and tomato, if desired.

Tip #1

Chunk light tuna is moister, softer in texture and darker in color than albacore tuna. Patties made with albacore tuna will be slightly firmer than those made with chunk light tuna.
