Easy Southwest Tostadas


1 pound ground turkey or lean ground beef

2 cups refrigerated fresh salsa

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

6 tostada shells

6 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Hot Pepper American

1 large avocado, peeled, chopped

1 1/2 cups shredded lettuce

1/2 cup sour cream

Chopped fresh cilantro, if desired

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat oven to 350°F.

  2. STEP 2

    Cook ground turkey in 10-inch skillet over medium heat 8-10 minutes or until no longer pink. Add 1 cup salsa, salt and pepper; mix well. Continue cooking 1-2 minutes or until heated through.

  3. STEP 3

    Place tostada shells onto large ungreased baking sheet. Top each with 1 slice cheese. Bake 1-2 minutes or until cheese just begins to melt. Place baked shells onto large serving plate.

  4. STEP 4

    Top each with 1/2 cup turkey mixture. Evenly divide avocado, lettuce and sour cream among tostadas.

  5. STEP 5

    Sprinkle with cilantro, if desired. Serve with remaining salsa.

Tip #1

Cut avocado right before serving as it will brown quickly.

Tip #2

Tostadas are crisply cooked corn tortillas. They can be fround in the Mexican section of the supermarket.
