Texas Barbecue Beef Sandwiches


1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/4 cup cider or white wine vinegar

1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter

2 teaspoons chili powder

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic

2 pounds thinly sliced deli roast beef, cut into strips

12 hamburger buns, split

12 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American

1 1/2 cups ketchup

1 small (1/2 cup) onion, chopped

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Combine all ingredients except beef, hamburger buns, and cheese in 4-quart slow cooker; stir.  Add beef; stir to coat. Cover; cook on High heat setting 2-3 hours or until flavors are blended. Reduce heat to Low to keep warm.

  2. STEP 2

    Spoon beef mixture evenly over bottom half of buns; top each with 1 slice cheese. Place top half of bun over cheese.

Stovetop Directions: Stir together all ingredients except beef, hamburger buns, and cheese in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Stir in beef; cook 15-18 minutes or until heated through.
