Top-Your-Own Hot Dogs


Vegetable Relish

1/4 cup (1x1/4-inch) green bell pepper strips

1/4 cup (1x1/4-inch ) red bell pepper strips

1 small (1/2 cup) onion, finely chopped

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic

Barbecue Sauce

1/4 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chili sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Dilled Mustard

1/3 cup yellow mustard

2 tablespoons finely chopped onion

1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh dill  

Hot Dogs & Condiments

6 premium hot dogs, bratwurst or sausages

6 hot dog or bratwurst buns


Ketchup, if desired

Mustard, if desired

Shredded Cheddar cheese, if desired

Chili without beans, heated, if desired

Sweet pickle relish, if desired

 *Substitute 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed.

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Prepare relish, sauce and mustard as directed.

  2. STEP 2

    Heat gas grill to medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.

  3. STEP 3

    Vegetable Relish: Place all vegetable relish ingredients in center of 9-inch square heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bring edges of foil up to center; tightly seal top and sides. Place bundle onto grill. Grill 5-10 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Set aside.

  4. STEP 4

    Barbecue Sauce: Combine all barbecue sauce ingredients in 1-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until sauce just comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low; continue cooking, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Set aside.

  5. STEP 5

    Dilled Mustard: Combine all dilled mustard ingredients in bowl; mix well. Set aside.

  6. STEP 6

    Grill hot dogs 5-9 minutes or until heated through. Place hot dogs into buns; serve with vegetable relish, barbecue sauce, dilled mustard and/or desired condiments.
