Burgers are a staple summer meal. There are few things that taste better than a burger straight off the grill, smothered with melty cheese. Sometimes, though, you might be feeling a little more adventurous. When ketchup and mustard just aren’t enough, then what??
How about topping a burger with jam? It sounds strange, but tastes delicious. Use the jam recipes from Savory Parmesan Thumbprints as the spread. Try Bacon Balsamic Onion and Tomato Rosemary Onion Jam – both are unexpected, but oh-so-yummy.
Bacon makes just about everything better, including a burger. Combine the classic BLT with an extra slice of cheese and a fried egg. Extra napkins required.
Grill a variety of peppers – bell peppers, jalapeno peppers or mini-sweet peppers. Slice and place them on top of a turkey burger. Our Santa Fe Turkey Burger is a fun alternative with plenty of flavor.
Fruit salsas are also a fun way to mix it up. Mango Salsa on grilled chicken sliders creates the perfect sweet and savory balance.
Sometimes (maybe this is just me), the plates at picnics just don’t seem to be big enough to try everything. Top your burger with Creamy Potato Salad a) to save plate room; and b) because it’s so tasty you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it before.
What unique things do you like to top your burgers with? We’d love to hear from you (especially in time to stop at the grocery store for dinner)!
