Best Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

This smooth and creamy chocolate butter frosting is perfect to spread over a favorite cake.

1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

Dash salt

1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Heavy Whipping Cream

1 (1-ounce) square unsweetened baking chocolate, melted

1 tablespoon light corn syrup

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Beat butter in bowl at medium speed until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa and salt alternately with whipping cream and melted chocolate, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Stir in corn syrup.

Tip #1

- This recipe will be enough to frost one (13x9-inch) cake or 12 cupcakes.

Tip #2

- Add additional whipping cream, if necessary, for desired spreading consistency.

This frosting is easy, creamy rich buttery and delicious - very yummy, I've used it to frost chocolate cakes for church potlucks and for my boyfriend's birthday and it never fails to receive rave reviews and many "Mmmmmmmms". It will very generously frost a 9x13 inch cake. I love it!

Very good! After reading that it was dry and hard to spread- i expected to use a little extra cream. I used almost 3 times the heavy cream from what the recipe said! Also- it EASILY frosted and filled a 9 inch round layer cake and i tend to use a LOT of frosting! I almost doubled it when it said it would only frost 12 cupcakes- glad I didn't. It made a lot!
