Ingredients

Brownies

2 cups
firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup
Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2
large Land O Lakes® Eggs
1/2 teaspoon
almond extract
2 cups
all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons
baking powder
1 cup
chopped almonds
1 cup
dried cherries, coarsely chopped

Drizzle

2 (1-ounce) squares
bittersweet baking chocolate
1 teaspoon
shortening

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine brown sugar and butter in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Add eggs and almond extract; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour and baking powder; beat at low speed until well mixed. Stir in almonds and cherries.
  3. Press or spread mixture into greased 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake 28-35 minutes or until top is golden brown and center is set. Cool completely.
  4. Combine chocolate and shortening in 1-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted. Drizzle over brownies. Cut into bars.

Recipe Tips

Use melted dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips for a less intense chocolate flavor.

I made a half recipe, using black walnuts since I had about 5# to use up. Added vanilla and cherry extract, too. I forgot the baking powder!!! But based on the texture of the dough, I'm guessing it's going to be somewhat like shortbread. I'll follow up with a comment when they're baked and cooled.

These were easy to make and really good. I did add 1 cup of white chips to the brownie batter before baking. This is a recipe I will make again and again!
