Chocolate Chip Sweet Cream Scones

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons sugar

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup cold Land O Lakes® Butter, cut into chunks

1/2 cup real semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 large Land O Lakes® Egg, slightly beaten

4 to 6 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Half & Half

1 large Land O Lakes® Egg, slightly beaten

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat oven to 400°F.

  2. STEP 2

    Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in chocolate chips, 1 egg and just enough half & half so dough leaves sides of bowl.

  3. STEP 3

    Knead dough lightly 10 times on lightly floured surface. Roll into 9-inch circle; cut into 12 wedges.

  4. STEP 4

    Place wedges onto ungreased baking sheet. Brush tops with remaining egg. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from baking sheet.

We've been making these scones for almost 20 years, since the recipe first came out, printed on the inside of the butter carton. It became my son's specialty, and he still makes them at age 36. Always a hit at family holiday gatherings!
