I made this for Christmas dessert last year, and it is fantastic! I have made it several times since as it is written. I have assembled it the night before and cooked it the next day. I also made the vanilla sauce the day before and just heated it up before serving. This year I am replacing the raisins with mini chocolate chips!

I love this recipe and with a few changes it is perfect for me. I increase the raisins to 1 cup, decrease the sugar to 1/3 cup and add an additional egg................

This recipe is moist, and I'll make it again. I used Raisin Bread instead of plain, just added two more slices since they were small, added a handful of golden raisins and pecans. The vanilla sauce is yummy and plentiful.

Amazing! I followed recipe exactly except omitted the raisins. Next time I will remove crusts and toast bread first to avoid soggy bread pudding.

One of the best recipes I've tried.Family loves it!

Delicious! I added some cognac to the vanilla sauce for an "adult" dessert ... was excellent. Leftover sauce was amazing over a good vanilla ice cream, too! This is a "keeper" !!

Super easy and delicious! I butter the casserole dish for extra flavor. The vanilla sauce is yummy but this also goes great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

I've made many bread pudding recipes. This is by far the best I have found in creaminess, sweetness and not to dense. The sauce is a wonderful accompaniment, but not necessary. Delicious overall!

I used rum extract instead of vanilla and one half the amount of sauce was enough. Can use extra rich or half & half instead of heaving cream for the sauce. But the rum taste makes it. Also, for bread I used French white bread.

YUM!, YUM! YUM! This bread pudding recipe was so delicious there was silence. Everyone was busy enjoying this delicious dessert. Thank you for making me the hit of our dinner! I already have requests for more.

Visiting my daughter and her husband, and he is always saying how much he loves bread pudding, so I made this for him, without the sauce, used whipped cream on top. Perfection. I could have eaten the whole thing, but I got two bites, he ate the whole thing and raved about it. I did add 3/4 cup sugar and they had no nutmeg, all I could find was Pumpkin Pie Spice and added about 1/2 tsp, and it was delicious! thank you for this recipe. I have tried others and they do not compare to this one! Love it, and so easy.

Made pudding as instructed, but used lemon flavoring, butter, cool whip and butter for the sauce. Delicious!

Never made bread pudding before and this was outstanding. I would add a little more mild next time because is was slightly drier than desired. The sauce is beyond delicious.,

I made this using "cinnamon bread" ... To fit my dish, I used 1.5 the recipe for the pudding, but doubled the sauce recipe (1.5 the sauce would have been fine, too!) Took it to "fellowship meal" and there were good comments, although many of the "younger folk" are not familiar with bread pudding! I will make it again, and pass on the recipe to those who have requested it! Thank you!

My family loves it...It's just like Mom used to make in the 50's. Perhaps the same recipe?... Does anyone know if it's alright to make everything the night before and cook it the next day?

Banana Cream Cheese Bread Pudding Instead of 4 cups (8 slices) of bread, I used a whole loaf of Challah bread from the "day old" section at the bakery (about 10 cups). I increased the amount of milk to approximately 5 cups and the amount of butter to 1/2 cup (1 stick). In a separate bowl, I blended together 4 oz. cream cheese (softened), two-three ripe bananas, and the remaining ingredients (1/2 cup sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla--I omitted the nutmeg). I added the mixture to the softened bread, and then poured into a 9"x13" casserole dish. I baked it for 45 minutes at 350 degrees, as stated in the original recipe. Fun Tips: You can also use a bag of blueberry bagels to turn the bread pudding into a blueberry banana cream cheese treat! You can top with maple syrup to give it a breakfast flair!

I swapped chopped dried apricots for the raisins and added pecans and cinnamon. SUPER YUMMY! I usually love really sweet stuff, but I was surprised at how much I liked the more subtle sweetness of this pudding. I know the sauce would be the perfect addition, but I was short on ingredients. I just went with some maple syrup...which was a good touch of extra sweetness to finish it off. Glad I found this recipe!
