Learn How it Works...
Cookie
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Flat wooden craft sticks
Frosting
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons milk
Glaze
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 teaspoons water
Red, white and blue decorator sugars or sprinkles
STEP 1
Heat oven to 350°F.
STEP 2
Combine sugar, 1/2 cup butter, sour cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla in bowl; beat at medium speed until well mixed. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; continue beating until well mixed.
STEP 3
Divide dough in half. Working with one-half at a time; roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2-inch star cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Place wooden craft stick under each star; pressing cookie dough gently into stick. Bake 5-6 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; carefully remove to cooling rack.
STEP 4
Repeat rolling and cutting with remaining dough. (Do not insert craft sticks.) Bake 5-6 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; carefully remove to cooling rack.
STEP 5
Combine powdered sugar, 1/4 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla in bowl. Beat at low speed until well mixed. Add milk; continue beating until well mixed. Beat at high speed until creamy. Cover; set aside.
STEP 6
Combine corn syrup and water in another bowl. Brush glaze over 1 cookie without stick; immediately sprinkle with decorator sugars or sprinkles, as desired. Repeat with remaining cookies.
STEP 7
Frost bottom of 1 cookie with stick with about 1 teaspoon frosting. Place 1 decorated cookie without stick over frosting; press down slightly. Repeat with remaining cookies.
- These cookies can be made as regular cookies on a stick and not sandwiched. Place craft stick under all cookies before baking and decorate as desired.
- Push craft stick into Styrofoam and tie red and blue curling ribbon around stick for a festive centerpiece.
