Candy Cane Twists

Ingredients
1 12 cups powdered sugar
1 14 cups Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
2 34 cups all-purpose flour
12 teaspoon salt
14 teaspoon red gel food color, as desired
How to make

STEP 1
Heat oven to 350°F.

STEP 2
Combine powdered sugar, butter, egg, peppermint extract and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed until creamy. Add flour and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.

Divide dough in half. Beat food color into one half of dough.

Roll 1 teaspoon of each dough to 4-inch rope to create each candy cane. Place 2 ropes side by side; twist gently and roll dough together. (For best results, complete cookies 1 at a time to prevent drying out.)

Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Curve 1 end to form handle of cane.

Bake 8-10 minutes or until set. Let stand 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.
Tip #1
If dough is dry, stir in 1 teaspoon milk. If dough is too soft, refrigerate 1 hour or stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons flour.
Tip #2
Top with sanding sugar as desired before baking for extra sparkle.
Tip #3
Up the minty flavor by stirring 1/3 cup finely crushed cnady canes or red and white peppermint candy into the uncolored dough half before shaping cookies.
