QMy grandson is always in a hurry in the morning. I try to give him some healthful muffins to carry with him so he doesn’t have to skip breakfast. I’d love some suggestions for wholesome bread, muffins, or granola that would be easy to pack and not sticky.

We agree that breakfast is important, and it’s very kind of you to help your grandson slow down enough to eat something healthy. Muffins are a wonderful option — they’re easily portable and can be loaded with whole grains, fruits, and even vegetables such as zucchini or carrots. Try Blueberry Cornmeal Muffins, Good Morning Muffins or simple Chewy Granola Bars, they are easy to enjoy in the car or on the walk to school.

When my boys were young, we often packed homemade snacks for breakfast or treats during the day. When you make them yourself, you avoid the preservatives and fillers sometimes found in packaged products. Plus, they’re fresh, delicious and full of love.
