Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

Here is a quick and easy way to make chocolate peanut butter bars when you don’t have time to shape and bake individual cookies.

15 min
1 hr

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened

1/2 cup chunky peanut butter

2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons sugar

48 milk chocolate kiss-shaped candies

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat oven to 350°F.

  2. STEP 2

Combine brown sugar, butter and peanut butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda; beat at low speed until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips.

  3. STEP 3

Pat dough into ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 15-17 minutes or until golden brown. Press evenly spaced chocolate candies into warm bars. Cool completely. Cut into bars, cutting between candies.

I was really upset to find the recipe in the margerine box and go to all the expense and trouble to make it...then to log on and find that it was changed because it really wasn't very good in a 13x9, more butter, less flour, etc.

Very disappointed in final result. I did use creamy peanut butter that I had on hand that may have contributed to the lack of flavor. Not sweet enough for me, very bland flavor and dry. Did not taste like individual cookies that I make. It was a waste of time and money and ingredients for me because I dumped the plate of bars after family agreed they were not very good. I do not like to waste "fun, treat" calories on poor tasting items. Very disappointed that recipe with questionable results is printed in the box...good marketing I guess...but I was mad enough to actually sign up and express my disappointment. Thanks.
