Tint this versatile butter frosting in a variety of colors when decorating cut-out cookies, or tint the entire amount one color to frost a special birthday cake.

Ingredients

4 cups
powdered sugar
1/4 cup
Land O Lakes® Half & Half
1/2 cup
Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2 teaspoons
vanilla
Food color, if desired

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Tint with food color, if desired. Add additional half & half, 1 teaspoon at a time, to reach desired spreading consistency.

Recipe Tips

For a no-mess disposable pastry bag, spoon icing into a clean resealable plastic food bag. Seal; snip off corner. Decorate cake or cookies as desired.

Hi Pat, you can keep the frosting at room temperature for about 2 hours, otherwise we'd suggest keeping it stored in the refrigerated. Happy baking!

Because the frosting calls for half and half, does that mean that the cake would have to be refrigerated? Or will the frosting be okay at room temperature.

Very easy with ingredients most of us have on hand. I made it for a birthday cake and it spread nicely and then I tinted it and put it in a piping bag to decorate the cake. It flowed smoothly and held its shape, which is a plus. Some frostings just won't do that.
