Ingredients

1 pound extra lean ground beef

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup water

1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Hot sauce, if desired

6 slices Texas toast bread

12 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American

How to make

  1. STEP 1

Cook ground beef in 12-inch skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Add onion and bell pepper; continue cooking 3-4 minutes or until vegetables are softened. Add all remaining ingredients except bread and cheese. Reduce heat to low; cook 5-10 minutes or until thickened.

  2. STEP 2

    Heat broiler.

  3. STEP 3

Place bread onto ungreased baking sheet; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat, turning once, 4-6 minutes or until toasted. Top each with 1 slice cheese; continue broiling until melted. Top each with 1/2 cup beef mixture and 1 slice cheese; continue broiling 1 minute or until melted. Serve hot.

Tip #1

If desired, serve on regular hamburger buns, instead of Texas toast.
