Grilled Ham & Onion Sandwich

1 cup thinly sliced red onion

1 cup thinly sliced white or yellow onion

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon country-style Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon cider vinegar

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter

8 slices rye bread

1/2 pound thinly sliced deli ham

4 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Sharp Cheddar American Blend, cut in half

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat gas grill to medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.

  2. STEP 2

    Place onions, honey, mustard and vinegar in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 2-3 minutes or until onions are crisply tender.

  3. STEP 3

    Butter one side of each bread slice; top unbuttered side of each of 4 bread slices with 2 ounces ham and 2 pieces cheese. Divide onion mixture evenly among sandwiches. Top with remaining bread slices, buttered-side up.

  4. STEP 4

    Place sandwiches onto grill. Grill, turning occasionally, 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is toasted.
