Patty Melts with Fried Onions
Get started!

Fried Onions

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter

3 large (3 cups) onions, sliced

1 pound lean ground beef

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon seasoned salt

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon pepper

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter

4 slices marble rye bread, cut in half

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

8 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American, cut in half

How to make

  1. STEP 1

Heat 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in skillet until sizzling; add sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, 10-12 minutes or until onions are caramelized and golden brown. Remove to bowl; set aside.

  2. STEP 2

Combine all burger ingredients in bowl; mix well. Shape into 4 very thin oblong patties. Place into same skillet; cook, turning once, 15-20 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F or desired doneness. Remove burgers to plate; keep warm. Wipe skillet with paper towels before grilling sandwiches.

  3. STEP 3

Butter 1 side of each bread piece; spread other side with Dijon mustard.

  4. STEP 4

Place 4 pieces bread into skillet, buttered-side down; top each bread piece with 2 halves cheese. Place 1/4 onions and 1 burger patty onto 2 pieces bread. Cook over medium heat 2-3 minutes or until bread is toasted. Top burgers with remaining toasted bread pieces in skillet, buttered-side up. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
